Removing the 30 yr old Microwave Convection Oven

I removed the old microwave convection oven because it hardly heated up water after 2mins and it was most likely giving me cancer 🤣🤣

I love vintage stuff but a 30 year old microwave…. nope!

I’m totally obsessed with my Cuisinart oven fryer and it fit perfectly in there with room on the side for the cutting board and induction cook plate. I still need to figure out what to put over the front so it’s secure when I’m driving, but that will come another day!

I ordered a electric kettle for less then $20! This way I can boil water quickly which is really the only thing I use a microwave for anyway. I truly don’t like to heat up leftovers in the microwave because it makes food taste like rubber! Plus with cooking smaller I am hoping for less leftovers!

Decorating & Finishing Touches on Living Area

Before- Looking from driving seats towards back

Looking forward from hallway

One of my must haves when trying to find an RV to live & travel in was a clothes washer. I have two active boys, and boys are boys and get dirty.

But there are two problems with that:
1- cost
2- bad reviews/issues.

Then I found a small portable washer that is gravity drained (no pump to break) a super fast spin cycle that leaves clothes almost dry and stellar reviews… kicker was it was about $100! 👊🏼

I knew I wasn’t going to use the dinning table so I took one bench out to install the washer and I used the other bench as a shelf and added butcher block counter above.

The distressed wall is actually peal and stick wallpaper! Its so easy to apply and if you want to take it down and change things up it won’t ruin the wall! You can find it in many styles and patterns here!

Metal Basket on wall are from amazon too!

The round circles on the fridge are peel and stick too. I used Rust-Oleum chalk board paint.

The curtains are from Target and are light block, which will help keep the RV cool! I trimmed the curtains to fit the length I wanted and used the extra and made a bed skirt for the jack knife sofa in the living room area.

Raised dog bowl was a great find at Target! Even though it takes up floor space, having it raised allows feet to go under it so it feels like it doesn’t take up so much room.

For the Living Room

I had this vision of a space full of color and mixing patterns. I wanted the small space to pop but also flow, ya know since an RV is the ultimate open floor plan!

Before sofa

Target is hands down my favorite store for decorating my house. Each year they never disappoint with their collections!  I bought the same curtains I had in my house because I absolutely love them.  I was drawn to finding a mauve cover for the sofa bed, originally I was envisioning a darker color but I fell in love with this jersey knit blanket ❤️

I scored a few things on clearance like the round blanket and long throw pillow. *Pro tip- check the end caps for discounted items! 👊🏼

I took some of the wood panel wallpaper off of the wall because I’m in love with one of my abstract paintings I did so I just had to hang it up! It pulls all the colors together in the space perfectly.

I can not wait to relax on my sofa after long days exploring the US on our travels!

On the opposite side of the sofa are the boys chairs. One of the reasons I fell in love with this RV was these chairs. I wanted the boys to have seats with seatbelts to travel in and not just a dinette booth. Traveling for 4-6 hrs a day would not be comfortable in a dinette booth! We also have 3 seat belts in the sofa too. I really like sitting in them because I can prop my feet up on the sofa! The table in between the seats I found at an antique shop. I cleaned it up and put a clear spray sealer on it. I just need to get a glass top cut and that project will be complete!

There is a pull down twin above the cab. Kai has requested they use that as their “kid cave” I’ll figure out something to make it special soon but for know I just need to get a sheet on the mattress. It was still wrapped in its original plastic when we got it, the original owners never used it!

Boys hanging out while I worked on finishing the bathroom

This week my mother in-law will help me finish up the new front window curtains we are making. They slide on a track and will give us privacy and help keep things cool. One of the old ones is still hanging but only by a few snaps! My daughter broke off most them when she took them down so we could wash them. But when the sun is beating in the front window they are still useful!

Skin Care: Toxin Free Before and After Sun Options

Our skin is the largest organ in our body and its so important for us to take good care of it. Beside safe sun practices that we will dive into soon, things like stress and diet hugely affect your skin’s appearance. Of course with my background as a Certified Nutrition & Wellness Consultant I  have to pass on  some general health tips to keep your skin healthy from the inside out.

*Let’s dive into Nutrition & Wellness first!

Learning how to decrease stress and adopt a healthy sustainable diet are two key factors to beautiful skin.

– STRESS can elevate hormone levels making you more prone to acne; it can trigger psoriasis; and it can cause premature aging.

Use your favorite de-stressing techniques like deep breathing, prayer, meditation, and exercise to lower stress. I also love using Stress Away oil on my temples, the back of my neck, or in the diffuser to decrease occasional stress. Any high frequency oil can help support your emotional wellbeing.

– DIET is equally important. Collagen makes up 70 percent of your skin, and vitamin C plays a vital role in its synthesis. Antioxidant vitamins protect collagen, and vitamin A prevents dryness and roughness on the surface.

Essential fats are also needed for healthy skin.

Avoid sugar and processed food.
Avoid wheat and dairy. (I know this is SO HARD. Trust me I am right there with you! BUT we can totally do it!)
Eat healthy organic food like fruits, veggies, and protein.
Increase daily water intake.
Take your daily Young Living supplements.

YL supplements that support healthy skin:

NINGXIA RED is extremely high in antioxidants. One to two oz a day will do your body good.

SULFURZYME combines wolfberry with essential daily nutrients to support intestinal function and eliminate free radicals.

OMEGAGIZE is an omega-3, DHA-rich fish oil supplement.

LIFE 9 is a proprietary, high-potency probiotic that combines 17 billion live cultures from 9 beneficial bacteria strains that promotes healthy digestion, supports gut health, and helps maintain normal intestinal function.

*Now let’s dive into safe sun practices.

The excitement of longer, brighter, and warmer days can make some a little reckless when it comes to caring for their body.

Did you know that too much skin exposure to the sun can not only put you at higher risk of skin cancer but also can prematurely age the skin?

The sun can have a profound effect on our  skin, causing premature skin aging, skin cancer, and many other skin changes. Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun accounts for most premature skin aging.

The Golden rule has always been to avoid the sun durning the 10-2pm hour. But let’s be real, that can be challenging when your out all day. So you need to understand what makes a good sunscreen so you can make sure you are protected properly.

You want to filter out UVA and UVB light waves in order to protect your skin. If you can’t avoid the sun, then you can use sunscreen to block those waves.

But what about all those chemicals found in sunscreens?! For example, do yourselves a favor and look up Oxybenzone. YUCK!

Thankfully Young Living provides us with before and after sun care we need, with out the harmful and questionable ingredients.

Ones that Protect, Nourish, &  Moisturize  the trifecta of skin care.

Before Young Living came out with their sunscreen I learned how to my own. I started doing that because my middle son Kai was allergic to sunscreens and would break out in horrible rashes. Thankfully with his darker complexion, avoiding the 10-2pm hours, sun shirts and hats we did ok when he was younger, but as he got older he didn’t want all that stuff on & we spent a lot of time at the pool or beach with our friends.

Now making your own sunscreen seams like a huge task but it truly is so easy! At the bottom of the page you will find my recipe, supply list and a copy of a Live Video I did for my facebook group a few months ago.

If you are not a DIY type of person, that’s ok! I was so excited that Young Living came out with their first sunscreen in 2017 and they just released a higher SPF this month! I actually keep a few tubes of the YL Sunscreen in my car and my bag when we are out exploring. I love the small packaging and it rubs in a bit easier then my homemade one. I also love to use this on my face!

What exactly is sunscreen and how does it work?

Sunscreen is NOT all about the SPF%. Shocker right!? SPF measures protection from sunburn, but not other types of skin damage. Good sunscreen needs to protect both UVA and UVB rays. Most Sunscreen on the market only cover UVB. If they cover both UVA & UVB it will be labeled as Broad Spectrum. But they will not be equal coverage based on the SPF value.

UVA  rays penetrate deep into the dermis, the skin’s thickest layer. Unprotected exposure can lead to premature skin aging and wrinkling and suppression of the immune system. (Remember UVA=Skin Aging & Damage)

UVB rays will usually burn the superficial layers of your skin. It plays a key role in the development of skin cancer. (Remember UVB=Sun Burn )

SPF 10-90% Blockage of UVB rays

SPF 15- 93%  Blockage of UVB rays

SPF 30- 97% Blockage of UVB rays

SPF 50- 98% Blockage of UVB rays

SPF 100- 99% Blockage of UVB rays

ZINC covers both UVA (1 &2) & UVB.  SPF is directly tied to the % of zinc found in the product.

Nanoparticles Most zinc oxide (and titanium dioxide) based sunscreens contain nanoparticles one-twentieth the width of a human hair. What are nanoparticles for? They are super tiny particles that are used to reduce or eliminate the chalky white tint that larger particles leave on the skin. Why are nanoparticles bad for us? Nanoparticles are bad because they can get into our blood stream and when activated by the sun can actually cause sun damage.

Clean Water

One thing I have been thinking a lot about has been access to clean drinking water while the kids and I travel. I have read many blog post and watched countless YouTube videos on keeping a RV fresh water tank clean but something about that just doesn’t sit right with me. Add the fact that we are buying a used (aka classic) RV I just want to make sure our drinking water is 100% ok.

Beside putting filters on the RV water intake I have found the Berkey Water Filter should be a good option!

Do you have a Berkey? What do you love about it?

I’m always trying out new combos for smoothies and I really like this one! It’s a great way to pack extra protein and carbs into the morning, especially on days you know you can’t get a morning snack in or if you are having a late lunch.

Combine in blender:
3/4 cup no sugar added almond milk
1/4 cup no sugar added Greek yogurt
1/2 cup frozen organic blue berries
1 banana
Handful of baby kale or spinach
1 TBS ground flax meal
2 scoops of Young Living Vanilla Protein Complete

Protein Chocolate Bites

These were so easy to make and it provided a quick and easy breakfast for the kids that was packed with good nutrition to get them started in school with a sweet twist to get them devouring them!

Mix together the following in a blender for best and quickest results:

1 cup of Oats

2 scoops of Young Livings Protein Complete

2 oz Organic peanut butter, no sugar added (measure by weight, I used kitchen scale it’s less clean up)

1/4 cup of mini chocolate chips (I used the Enjoy brand, they have less sugar, but taste great!)

2 oz of Almond Milk

You can scoop and form into a ball or press into pan and chill before serving.

Morning Muffins to Protein Morning Muffins

My kids love it when I make muffins on the weekends, I had fond memories of making breakfast with my dad as I was always the early riser in our house. He used to pop me up on the counter so I could help stir the batter (mostly for pancakes) and help him flip once I got old enough. So I enjoy having my kids help me too, I hope they cherish these moments as they get older!

I usually make blueberry muffins but my kids scarfed them all down already and I had no frozen back up! I decided to make a Spice Muffin instead, using some Essential Oils to flavor them. One thing I dislike about muffins or pancakes is that it’s low in protein. If my kids don’t get a good protein in at meals they are hungry in a hour and digging in the pantry! I didn’t want to cook eggs as well so I decided to try and add my new protein powder I got a few weeks ago.

I followed the recipe on back of box for the muffins. I adjusted it by adding 2 drops of each essential oil: Cinnamon Bark, Clove, Ginger, Nutmeg. I then added 4 scoops of Young Livings Pure Protein Complete to the batter and an additional 1/2 cup of no sugar added Almond Milk. That added an additional 50g of protein to the mix! Score! Now my balance of carbs was lower then my protein so they can officially be called Protein Morning Muffins!

Now I was taking a huge leap of faith, since I’ve never tried this before! I hoping 1. It would bake up ok 2. It would taste good!

Thankfully it baked up great at the original recommend baking time of 22 mins!

Now the real challenge: The Kid taste test!

I have plenty to seave for breakfast the next few days so school mornings will be much easier!

Back to School: School Shopping

I was about to head out this morning to do our back to school shopping. I had the three lists printed out, I was frantically trying to get the kids up and going but they just were not having it this morning! Keao was the only one ready and willing to go shopping, which is so rare for her! Keanu slept the latest but still woke up a grumpy monster! He got some Stress Away rubbed on him and laid down for a bit! Kai got dressed, barley ate and then came to me crying as he was trying to brush his teeth. His lymph node in his jaw/neck area was swollen and painful. This is nothing new, anytime his body starts fighting something off, that is the first thing to swell up! We quickly did our home remedie treatment using essential oils. As I was rubbing some on his neck he asked if we could just stay home today. At that point I was completely on board with that idea but knew Keao would be disappointed that she couldn’t get her school supplies. I quickly thought and said to her “Hey! You want to grab my computer and shop on Amazon for your school supplies?” She got excited and said “Can I search for Pokemon folder?” Sure what ever floats your boat right now! I thought… haha crises adverted! Thanks Amazon!

If you don’t have Amazon Prim you need to! Free shipping and Free 2-Day shipping on most stuff is just about the best thing since ice cream! (I know the pun is supposed to be Sliced Bread but Ice Cream was a much better innovation!) They have a Free 30-Day trail membership, after it’s only $99 for the year! If you do any Christmas Shopping online it will save you 10x the cost of membership! I even ordered some organic and gluten free snack items for school lunches, talk about easy! Too bad they don’t have produce!
